Buttoned Up

If you’ve been checking your Instagram feeds or favorite fashion blogs lately, you’ve probably noticed the ’90s revival that’s currently underway. From chokers to crop tops to mom jeans, the ’90s are hot hot hot and “back in style.” Good and bad things have come from this revival, let’s be clear. I love a nice pair of wide leg or flare jeans, but I think we can keep chokers in the past.

One trend to truly shine during this movement is the button-up skirt. Rendered in everything from corduroy to denim to cotton, this skirt has taken high-fashion and everyday brands by storm. It kind of reminds me of the back-to-school shopping I did in middle school. Come on, everyone had a corduroy skirt come September before 6th grade….right? Or am I the only one?

Madewell’s Labels b+n Loves

If you know anything about the humans behind bean and nash, you know that we love Madewell. In fact, Madewell really brought us together when we were #blessed to work there together a few years ago. Did we do much working? No. Did we do a lot of playing? Yes. To the point that they wouldn’t schedule us together and made us stand across the store from one another so that we wouldn’t talk. It was bad. But it was great.

Caroline and I have both loved Madewell for a very long time. As J.Crew’s younger and more hip sister, Madewell is for the ambitious yopro who must express her sense of fashion, and therefore her sense of self, no matter what situation she’s in. She’s not trying to follow every trend; she wants to look chic, feel comfortable, and exude confidence. It’s a great spot for office classics, casual Saturdays, and date night.

Now that I’ve done a psychoanalysis of the Madewell girl, let’s get into our favorite Madewell collabs. The brand partners with countless brands to offer its shoppers products that they can’t find anywhere else. We’re doing a quick rundown of our favorite Madewell collaborations; prepare to run to the closest Madewell as fast as you can say WHYISITSOHUMIDTODAY. You’ve been warned.

madewellsezaneMadewellxSézane, a French label designing a line for Madewell inspired by Paris and New York. Très chic. We’re obsessed with all things stripped and distressed here at b+n so this line is basically made for us. Just sayin’.

rachelcomeyxmadewellMadewellxRachel Comey, a designer we love for her dedication to creating clothes for real women with strong opinions and big aspirations. Which I hope is all of our female readers!

madewellxbrandsThis last shot isn’t dedicated to one designer in paticular; instead, it’s a quick roundup of some of our favorite Madewellxdesigner accessories. Madewell partners with amazing brands, some known and others totally new to us. Some of our faves? P.F. Candle Co., which makes candles in scents like teakwood and tobacco that make you feel like you’re in the middle of a summer campfire on the Hudson. Those Ulla Johnson heels? Put them on me right now and call me Cinderella. I’m dying to sip some hot chocolate out of that Golden Rabbit mug while writing to a friend on one of Sapling Press‘ hilarious cards.

Maybe for our next collab-focused post we’ll hit up J.Crew, because they do some of the best collabs known to man. Check them out here. You won’t regret it–though your wallet might. Happy shopping!

Best of Sale

Among the things I’ve realized since starting my job in the ~fashun~ industry, is that sales (read: REAL sales) are twice a year. J. Crew seems to send out a sale email practically every other day, and everything is an extra 40 or 50 or 70% off. But sales on designer clothes? Like $$$ clothes? Those happen twice a year – around June and November. These amazing, and still unaffordable (but more affordable) sales are coming to a close soon, so I’m here to give my “sale wrap-up dream cart.” Read below to see what I would be buying if I made triple my salary.

Musings #13

Hola, shalom, and aloha friends! It’s been too long, but bean and nash have been through some fairly serious milestones since we last checked in (at least that’s what everyone tells us, I still have to google how to boil eggs). Luckily the HoLiDaY WeeKnD is almost upon us!!! I’m really loving this four-day week now that I’m #working at a real-ish job that I can’t oversleep (tested this theory out a few Fridays ago – realized you cannot skip work like you can skip class). Hopefully these internet finds will keep you occupied through only ONE more work day!

1. After recently moving into an apartment, I realize that I am finally able to decorate a space that is truly my own. Unlike dorms which look like prisons or my family home where my mom still controls every inch, my apartment is “mine” (for a small fortune compared to most of the world’s average rent). Having my own space = much more time spent browsing home sites and Pinterest and Houzz for ideas. One thing I am dying for and something that feels very adult, maybe too adult, is art. I would love to start collecting pieces now so that eventually I have a small compilation I can call my own. I am starting with Gray Malin‘s photography. I would kill for a giant, framed, aerial beach print. This, this, and this are a few of my favorites.

Bondi_Beach_7 Monterosso_Cinque_Terra Coogee_Beach_Horizontal_12 2. One of my other favorite websites for home goods is BRIKA. They carry everything from art to furniture to rugs and jewelry. I just picked up this wall hanging and bedside table dock for my apartment. Still coveting a few others things though…namely this lamp, these bowls, and this pillow. 9d1569529b2c4435c28da5a9236784ff 899fc51f29565a223f77fdb6cf18d2f5 2eed3241e681e0e1d10a829ff69340eb 3. This article on the issue of women saying sorry too much. I agree with what the author says and think that women should stop apologizing for everything, especially for things which aren’t our fault (duh). Quit it laydeez! 23Crosley-blog427 4. The Sill, a website which my coworker shared with me as a great gift idea. It seriously is, and as I’m getting more into plants myself, please do not be surprised (or alarmed) if my next gift to you is a cute little cactus. Screen Shot 2015-06-30 at 11.21.39 PM Screen Shot 2015-06-30 at 11.22.10 PM Screen Shot 2015-06-30 at 11.22.24 PM 5. This jewelry collection by A. Jaffe. I’m all about traveling and exploring new places, so the idea of commemorating your favorites with a map necklace sounds amazing to me. The issue would be deciding which local to decorate a necklace with. mapn008_copy_copy 14r_di_rd_pdt_engraved_-_close_up mapch02_3 6. This recipe for grapefruit and watermelon agua fresca. It’s about to get real hot and steamy in New York as July and then August (ugh) get underway. If I have the time, or materials, or space…I will definitely be making this refreshing beverage. agua_fresca_01 agua_fresca_03 agua_fresca_05 7. Sneakers. Namely these Nikes or these Adidas. I would love a pair of comfortable shoes I could wear to work, both in the office and on the commute. The term “fashion sneakers” makes me cringe, but at the same time, my gym shoes would just not cut it. Screen Shot 2015-06-30 at 11.40.49 PM M19585_01_standard-2 7. I know Gabby gave you her amazing music recommendations a few days ago, but I wanted to add some of my own. This song by The Weeknd, this remix, and this weekend jam are currently on replay.

8. This clothing company which just blew up all over my social media feeds. They encapsulate summer in their collection of florals, prints, and bright colors that make me wish it was 78 degrees year round (when do I not wish this?). 12 10. This series of interview videos by Vogue. So far I’ve watched Blake Lively, Daniel Radcliffe, and Sarah Jessica Parker. They are seriously addicting. Screen Shot 2015-06-30 at 11.58.01 PM Screen Shot 2015-06-30 at 11.56.25 PM That’s all for now – see you after the Fourth!

The Met Gala Review

The one and only Devin Nagle reviews the 2015 Met Gala. ~Read on for the hits and misses of this years biggest party~

Hello readers! I have graciously accepted this invitation to guest blog on bean+nash, and I’ve gotta say that I’m pretty pumped. I’ll be taking you through the highs, lows, and weirds of this year’s Met Gala red carpet. I’ve been wearing the same LBD from Target for the last 3 days, so I’m not sure how qualified I am to judge the fashion of others, but black is really in right now, so imma go ahead and start anyways.

FKA: This dress is cool and eclectic (like you), but there’s also a penis on it (unlike you). One step forward, two steps back.

Props for that arm candy

Props for that arm candy

Queen Bey: We know you’re hot. The universe is painfully aware of your perfect body, so you don’t need to wear a naked dress. But if you want to, we’re not gonna argue it. I just feel even worse about the Wendy’s I drunkenly ate last night. Thanks B.

Rihanna: Kudos to the whole Chinese designer thang, but you look somewhat ridiculous. You’ve already been compared to an omelette and to Big Bird, so I won’t go there on you, but I will say: it looks very soft yet very heavy. I would’ve slept in this after the party if I were you.

Side note: Why do people wear red on the red carpet??? It looks like they don’t have bodies!!?!?!?!???!!!

WHERE ARE YOU?!?!?!?!??!?!? I CAN’T SEE THE FASHUN UNDER THE CAMOUFLAGE

Helen Mirren: YAS QUEEN/DAME. How is it possible that a 69 year old woman is eons more attractive than my 21 year old a$$? I’m ashamed of myself yet proud of her. Although she is wearing camouflage so it’s hard to see her beauty.

2850623000000578-3068145-image-a-10_1430788175133
Miley Cyrus: as usual, freaking me out. I’m not surprised by it but I will say that this dress would really accentuate my love handles.

Miley-Cyrus-Met-Gala-2015-Pictures

Cara Delevigne: first of all, how do I pronounce your fu*king last name????? You’re beautiful (duh) but I don’t like the weird tattoos. If they were real though, that would be kinda cool. It would show some real #dedication to the #metgala #cause. Your body is incredible though and I still like the overall look.

Screen Shot 2015-05-07 at 9.55.14 AM

Constance Jablonski: You’re essentially wearing a looser version of what Cara Delevigne has on, minus the weird tats and plus these weirder Adidas sandals that people wear in the shower to prevent athletes’ foot. This is the Met Gala honey, not a women’s locker room!!!!!!! Get your sh*t together, Constance.

JLo: Why is Jenny from the block being so blatantly excluded from this naked argument? She is just as nudey as bey and k #rude #exclusion

Gigi Hadid: Who is Gigi Hadid????? She’s really…really hot. I’m actively questioning my sexuality. Still calling you out on the red on red camouflage move, but your extreme hotness led me to googling who you were, so it’s working. (PS: She’s a model. Shocking.)

Gigi-Hadid-au-Met-Gala-2015-le-4-mai-2015_portrait_w674

Katy Perry: Wtf KT. You’re carrying a spray paint bottle as a purse. Is the bottle full or is it empty and is your phone in there? Also, your hair is in the awkward growing out the pixie cut stage that makes you resemble a 14 year old boy- imma need you to grow it out or cut it stat.

katy-perry-met-gala-284600

Madonna: Promoting her own album on her dress is #not #classy #and #pretty #tacky

madonna_met_gala
Side note: What’s with all the slicked back hair? My head is too large to do that successfully. I need volume to come back @kimk

vogue_met-gala-kanye-west-and-kim-kardashian-at-the-met-gala-2015
Justin Bieber: Actually looks good and well-themed, but he’s a sh*thead so he’s not getting any kudos.

shi*head

shi*head

Imogen Poots: Possibly the worst name ever?????? Also, looks like Little Goth on the Prairie.

imogen-poots-at-met-gala-2015-in-new-york_1

Amal Clooney: Like Dame Helen Mirren, I will excuse the camouflage red dress/red carpet combination because you are a beautiful monster. You managed to lock down the sexiest old man in the world while fighting for #humanrights while maintaining those beautiful sharp cheekbones. Keep on keeping on, you sexy enigma.

2850407600000578-3068043-Wow_factor_Amal_Clooney_made_her_Met_Gala_debut_in_a_tiered_crim-m-248_1430786374841

Does somewhat resemble the flamenco dancer emoji, though.

Claire Danes: So there’s a backstory here. Cookie from Empire wears black/dark lipstick so I wanted to, but I’m very pale and didn’t think it would look good, but Claire Danes has just proved me wrong with this look. I will be walking myself over to Rite Aid and picking up a nice noir shade stat.

claire-danes-met-gala-lipstick-w540

Amanda Seyfried: Honorable mention for pale b*tches who inspire fellow albinos to wear dark lips

Screen Shot 2015-05-07 at 10.03.30 AM

Solange: You look like a stingray. You should have shared some of your cloth with your sis Yonce, since she only had crystals on. Although if you have to go the Met Gala and you have a huge zit on your chin, this is the way to go.

solange-met-gala-2015-china-met-ball-472168518

Georgia May Jagger: People are giving her sh*t for wearing a #japanese #kimono style dress to a #chinese themed event but fuqq she looks hot.

bc5682195d5391f94841b568640408e2

Kris Jenner: Kris looks like the head honcho/druglord of a high-end Asian casino from a James Bond movie with Komodo dragons crawling around in the moat. I wouldn’t count cards in front of her.

Kris-Jenner

Anne Hathaway: Says she was inspired by Buddha. Caroline thinks she looks like an Oscar. I think that booty looks relish and that the hood is a good move on a bad hair day.

annehathaway

Side note: Why do they even bother putting guys in suits on these slideshows??? They all look pretty much the same and the majority of them look good. Thank you for your sexiness, fancy men, but I’m just tryna look at dresses.

Poppy Delevigne: First off, how are Poppy and Cara both models? Very uneven distribution of good genes…doesn’t feel fair to me and my sister, neither of us who have been signed to any modeling agencies yet. Anyways, I think Poppy has been waiting her whole life to wear a dress with poppies on it…are those poppies? I’m not actually sure. It’d be pretty sh!tty to her namesake if she were wearing a different flower, so for her sake, I hope they’re poppies.

poppy-delevingne-en-la-gala-met-2015_galeria_principal

Well, that’s about it. A big shoutout to alcohol for disrupting my sleep cycle and waking me up at 7am so that I could look through all the dresses worn at the Met Gala instead of sleep. Thanks for reading, and thanks to both nash and bean for granting me a guest spot on this shiz.
xoxo
